Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan auditioned for The X-Factor but they all failed and then Nicole is one of the x factor judges, advised them to join the boy band category. They also practiced and sang a song called Torn in front of all the judges. Simon Cowell is one of The X factor judge said they were winners of the competition in the category of boy band. Forever Young is the song they sang to celebrate their victory.

One Direction was formed.
